1936 Oak Hill Stenger, Sylvester "Bud" Accidental Death

Funeral services are being held this
morning at St. Mary's church in Kickapoo
for Sylvester Stenger who died
at St. Francis hospital early Tuesday
morning.
Death was caused by an injury at
first considered of little importance.
The young man with several friends
was fishing near his home a week ago
Sunday. A rock thrown by one of the
boys struck a tree, glanced off, and
struck Sylvester, slightly lacerating
the scalp. The wound was given medical
attention and he went about his
work as usual for a few days. Severe
head pains developed. A physician
was summoned and he was taken to
the hospital Friday.
Sylvester was born in Jubilee Town
ship. He is survived by his parents,
Andrew and Frances Loescher Stenger,
a brother Paul and two sisters,
Anna Mae and Irene (Mrs. Robert
Carroll).

STONE THROWN
INFLICTS INJURY
PROVING FATAL

An injury received on Sunday a
week ago while fishing when he was
struck in the back of the head by
a rock thrown by a boy caused the
death of Sylvester A. Stenger, 23-
year-old farmer, R. R. 1, Oak Hill,
at 3:20 o'clock this morning at St.
Francis hospital.
The young farmer and Pete Best
were fishing in a creek a mile from
the Stenger home while Paul Stenger,
a younger brother of Sylvester,
and Carl Groper, another boy, were
amusing themselves throwing rocks.
Stone Glances
Andrew Stenger, father of Sylvester
and Paul, said he thought a
stone struck a tree and glanced so
that it struck his older son. It cut
a small laceration in the back of
the scalp.
The young man went to Dr. Roy
B. Roberts of Brimfield, and had
the wound treated. Apparently the
injury was nothing serious and
Stenger continued about his work
as usual.
Infection Develops
On last Friday, however, he complained
of a severe headache and
went back to Dr. Roberts. The
physician reported the wound was
infected and treated it. The next
day the young man was to return
to the physician's office but was so
ill he could not move. Dr. Roberts
visited the residence and ordered
him removed to the hospital,
An autopsy was ordered by Cor-
oner William B. Elliott to establish
definitely the cause of death.
The young man was born in Jubilee township.
He is a son of Andrew and Frances Loescher Stenger.
Besides his parents and brother,
two sisters, Anna Mae and Mrs.
Irene Carroll of Edwards, and his
grandmother, Mrs. Frank Loescher
of Kickapoo, survive.
Funeral services will be conducted
Thursday morning at 9 o'clock at
the residence and at 9:30 at St.
Mary's church at Kickapoo. Burial
will be in the Catholic cemetery
at Kickapoo.
